What to know
Bed bug treatment works by reaching every hiding place the bugs use. Preparation is the step that gives the treatment access to those places. Items left cluttered, fabrics left unmoved, and furniture left flush against walls all give the bugs somewhere to hide during the application. The more thoroughly the space is prepared, the more effective a single treatment round is, and the fewer follow-up visits are needed. The list below is what our team will ask you to do before we arrive. It usually takes 2 to 3 hours for a typical apartment unit, longer for terrace houses or larger homes. We provide the same list during the booking call and again by WhatsApp the day before. If you have questions about any item or cannot complete part of the list, tell us during the booking call so we can adjust the treatment plan accordingly.
If you have any doubt about what to move or wash, contact us before the visit rather than skipping steps. Preparation gaps are the most common cause of recurrence.
Why preparation matters
Treatment products need direct access to harbourage zones. Clutter, fabrics, and tight furniture placement all block that access and reduce effectiveness.
Time required
2 to 3 hours for a typical apartment. Larger homes take 3 to 5 hours. We recommend starting the day before the visit so you are not rushed.
What we provide
A written checklist by WhatsApp the day before, and a quick call if you have questions. Mattress encasements are available for purchase or we can advise on a supplier.
What you provide
Time, bagging materials (large heavy-duty bags), and a clear run at the affected rooms. Optional help from family members speeds it up.
Practical action plan
- Strip all bedding from every bed in the affected rooms. Bag in heavy-duty plastic bags and seal.
- Wash all bedding, curtains, and washable fabrics in hot water (at least 60 degrees Celsius) and dry on the highest heat setting for at least 30 minutes.
- Vacuum all mattresses, box springs, carpets, and rugs thoroughly. Dispose of the vacuum bag in a sealed plastic bag outside the home immediately.
- Move all furniture at least 30 centimetres away from walls so our technicians can access baseboards, bed frames, and headboards.
- Remove all items from under the bed and from bedside drawers so the treatment reaches every surface.
- Declutter floor areas. Store items in sealed plastic bags rather than cardboard boxes, which harbourage bugs can hide in.
- Disconnect electrical equipment in the affected rooms so we can treat behind wall outlets and switch plates safely.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to throw away my mattress and furniture?
No. In most cases, professional treatment plus a mattress encasement is enough. We only recommend replacement when there is severe structural damage, usually after months of untreated infestation. Disposing of furniture without treatment usually makes things worse because it spreads bugs to other areas.
Can I stay in the property during treatment?
Most bed bug treatments allow re-entry within 4 to 6 hours of completion. Our team will advise the exact re-entry time based on the products used. Pets, fish tanks, and birds should be removed during the application.
What if I cannot complete all the preparation steps?
Tell us during the booking call. We will adjust the treatment plan to suit. Common adjustments include extending the application time, scheduling an additional visit, or using a different treatment method that does not require the same level of access.
Should I wash all my clothes or just the bedding?
Wash or dry-clean all clothes that have been in the affected rooms, especially items stored under the bed or in drawers near the bed. Bag clean items in sealed plastic until the treatment is complete. Do not move unwashed items from the affected rooms to other areas of the home.
